My Bio
My interest in the visual arts, particularly the artistic heritage and traditions of Africa and the African diaspora has been a progressive development that has spanned several decades. Many of my illustrations and designs are a
reflection of ideas and themes inspired by the many truths of the African world.
I have been a student of the African global experience for quite a while and have traveled to Africa on two occasions (Egypt/Kemet – 1987 & 1989). This experience has empowered me both as a person and as a visual artist.
As a person of African ancestry I am particularly concerned about the purposeful manufacture of demeaning images and perceptions about African humanity. This constant negative reenforcement plants and cultivates seeds of self-doubt and lowered expectations within the mind.
My understanding of the legacy of Africans in world history, including contemporary circumstances, and the impact of images and perceptions-drive my work. With my production I wish to contribute to the effort that seeks to reconnect the African to his and her glory - as understood and articulated by the African.
