Lebanon at “cheese 2006”

Lebanon will be participating for the first time ( as exhibitor) to a slow food event  at “Cheese”, the biannual event organized by Slow Food and the city of Bra;it is a leading international meeting dedicated to small cheese producers and following the philosophy underlying the successful Terra Madre and Salone del Gusto events.

Lebanon will be in “the house of goats” (as goat cheeses take center stage this year) exhibiting darfyieh cheese.

Darfyieh is a typical cheese from the northern mountains of Lebanon , made of goat milk, and aged for months in goatskin in mountain grottoes. It is one of the rare aged cheeses we find in the whole region.

With the darfyieh, Slow Food created its first presidium in Lebanon (and in the Middle East as well) as a true symbol of shepherds’ culture, and to revive and promote age-old cheese making tradition in the country.
