Nabajyoti Charitable Trust was founded by Shri Kamini Kanta Patnaik, a great visionary of Orissa State, way back in October 1984, starting a journey towards providing quality technical education by setting up Orissa’s first private sector engineering college -- Orissa Engineering College (OEC) in 1986. Over the last two decades, OEC has grown into a premier institute of the state, dedicated to quality technical education. Keeping in line with the broader vision, Nabajyoti Charitable Trust diversified into management education by establishing the Centre for Management Studies in 2001.
Besides these two main institutions, the trust has been promoting a health service center to help the needy in the peripheral villages.
Nabajyoti Charitable Trust has completed two decades of its journey with the mission to make the spread and promotion of education and socio-economic development through empowerment of the youth. Two of its major institutions: The Orissa Engineering College and the Centre for Management Studies have been set up to actualize this mission of the trust. The Orissa Engineering College (OEC), since its inception in 1986, has brought about a new dimension in technical education scenario in Orissa state; and placement of young engineers in various medium and large enterprises spread across the globe has brought due recognition to the institute. Its rapport with industries necessitated establishment of a management education centre and Nabajyoti Charitable Trust marched ahead fulfilling this need with the Centre for Management Studies (CMS), which started its journey from 2001.
